Dr. Predicala manages the Engineering Research Program at
PSCI, with an overall goal of improving air quality inside
hog barns to reduce odour and gaseous emissions to the environment,
and developing housing and management systems that optimize
pig welfare and productivity. He obtained his Ph.D. from Kansas
State University and his M.Eng. degree from Asian Institute
of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Predicala is also
an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Agricultural and
Bioresource Engineering, University of Saskatchewan.
Education
- Ph.D., Kansas State University, 2003
- M.Eng., Asian Institute of Technology, 1995
- B.Sc., University of the Philippines Los Baños,
1990
Current Research Program
- Development and evaluation of engineering control measures
to reduce risk of worker exposure to hydrogen sulphide (H2S).
- Evaluation of applicability of a biological treatment
approach in controlling H2S generation from swine
manure.
- Novel application of nanoparticles to reduce odor and
gaseous emissions from swine operations.
- Assessing the impact of swine sulphur intake from drinking
water on emissions and on manure nutrients.
- Reducing energy costs in swine barns to enhance the competitiveness
of the pork industry.
Graduate Students
- Daisy Asis, M.Sc. program, 2006
- Eleoner Navia, M.Sc. program,
2006
