Creep feeding handbook

msmit
Other
October 23, 2025

This handbook discusses the potential benefits and challenges of creep feeding. The handbook gives an overview of the effects of creep feed on sow and piglet performance, and piglet behaviour and physiology. It also talks about which piglets in a litter will eat the creep feed, and what factors affect creep feed consumption, including weaning age, creep feeding duration, feeder access, location and design, play feeders, feed form and pellet size, flavours, nutritional aspects, and transition diets. The handbook continues by discussing how to measure creep consumption and which pigs eat creep feed on your own farm, which will help in determining if creep feeding makes sense for your farm. The handbook ends with some recommended best management practices for creep feeding piglets weaned at 21 or 28 days of age.
