Sow Bodyweight Changes in Gestation

WShannon
Nutrition
October 19, 2020

Nutrient requirements and feeding strategies should be defined for the modern high-producing sow to increase herd efficiency. Evaluation of the factorial approach to define energy requirements was completed in pregnant sows. Sows between parity 3 and 5 can have the DE allowances predicted to maximize litter and sow performance, though younger and older parity sows have too much variability to predict. When implementing a factorial approach to determine daily feed allowance, using the weight and actual litter size within a herd is important.
