Feeding Level Affects Barley DE Measurements in Grower Pigs

WShannon

October 20, 2020

Nutrient content and feeding level of diets used in DE content measurement for grains prevent voluntary feed intake measurements and practical conditions are not reflected. Three barley samples with different fibre content were studied to look for differences in voluntary feed intake. Performance and voluntary feed intake varied across the samples. Nutritional value predictions should be made using a model with free access to food in order to reflect practical conditions. This gives insight to performance and therefore determines the true nutritional value of feed.
