Manure Management in Zero Till Systems

A broader range of nutrients can be provided with manure fertilizer compared to inorganic products. In order to properly use manure, nutrient and soil analyses are needed. Nutrient take time to be released after application of manure; in cattle, they are released in the second and subsequent years. Crops only need to be fertilized when they need it. Some practices that should be followed for manure management include doing manure nutrient analyses, soil testing, following rate recommendations and strategy for application as well as monitoring and record-keeping. New equipment has been developed to inject liquid manure with low disturbance for no-till fields and forage stands. Challenges with manure fertilizers include its variability, low nutrient content, constrictions in application and transportation technology and spreading solid manure in a consistent manner.
