Systems Engineering for Handling and Land Application of Solid and Semi-Solid Livestock Manure

October 22, 2020

To increase environmental sustainability and social acceptance of intensive livestock production, a top priority is research on manure handling and land application. Solid and semi-solid manure have had less research and development compared to liquid manure and slurry. Control of application rate of the product and uniform distribution and application to the land are very important technical characteristics of land application systems to optimize the agronomic value of manure. A prototype precision land applicator was created and included transverse distribution with total energy requirements of the system around 894 W per kg/s. Broadcast application and subsurface incorporation may be adapted for the prototype in future work.
