Prairie Swine Centre is a non-profit swine production research organization affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan and located 10km southeast of Saskatoon. We offer a nationally and internationally recognized program in research, knowledge transfer, and education all directed at the efficiency and sustainability of pork production. The Centre operates a 300-sow farrow-to-finish research herd and currently employs approximately 35 full and part-time staff and students.

Purpose: Responsible for the overall implementation of the maintenance area.
Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Completion of the ongoing structural and mechanical maintenance at PSC to ensure that the interior and exterior of the facility and the equipment remains functional, safe and bio secure
  2. To work with the Manager of Operations to diagnose and correct deficiencies
  3. To develop a long term preventative maintenance program for PSC
  4. Maintain a parts inventory sufficient to quickly respond to routine problems
  5. As required, attend to emergency call outs
  6. Attend training programs
  7. Work with the Manager of Operations on ordering/purchasing materials and services
  8. Maintain a safe working environment & responsible to act safely in performing job duties at all times
  9. Maintenance of company truck & skid steer
  10. Supervision of grounds keeper ensuring roadways in and around the facility are maintain
  11. Development of maintenance budget
  12. Other duties as required

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities:

  1. Mechanical welding and wood working experience
  2. Experience or aptitude with plumbing, electrical, or fabrication projects
  3. Ability to work independently without supervision
  4. Communication proficiency
  5. Interpersonal skills
  6. Effective time management skills
  7. Safety conscious
  8. Organized; multi-tasking
    Flexibility
  9. Self Starter
