Nutritional Value of High-Oil Oat Groats

October 21, 2020

High oil oat groats are assumed to have a higher DE content and therefore a higher nutritional value though this has not been explored extensively. Oat groats are known for their palatability and high energy density but the natural variant with high oil should be superior nutritionally. Grower pigs were used to determine the DE content of high oil oat groats. It was 5% higher than regular oat groats though performance was similar between the groups. It also had a higher fat content and can be an alternative for weaned pigs to increase energy intake.
