Impact of Feeding Micro-Aid® to Sows on Litter Performance

October 23, 2020

Micro-Aid® is produced from a plant extract and is used to mediate emissions from animal manures. It is an all-natural product, but it may reduce intestinal ammonia production and alter microbial populations. Some reports state that it may increase the level of immunoglobulins in colostrum when fed to sows, which may enhance piglet growth. Either 5 or 30 days pre-farrowing 125 ppm of Micro-Aid® was added to sow diets. It resulted in one additional alive piglet per litter and no changes on birth weight or piglet growth from birth to weaning. This result seems to be due to a decrease in stillborns.
