Murray welcomed all participants and gave a short overview of the value of the Centre in the past 35 years, and what we are planning to work on in the next 35 years.

 “Creep feeding strategies and piglet performance: Lessons learned from recent research”

Atta Agyekum, Ph.D. – Prairie Swine Centre

In this presentation, Atta discussed results from recent trials looking at effect of creep feeding on iron status and piglet performance.

“Elevating the Future Herd: Gilt Development Updates”

Mauricio Gonzalez, DVM, M.Sc. and Steffen Klenk – PIC

In this presentation, Mauricio discussed how to adjust management for fast growing breeding gilts, as well as some other tips to keep gilts and sows high performing.

“Practical enrichments for growing pigs on commercial farms”

Miranda Smit, Ph.D. – Prairie Swine Centre and Martyna Lagoda, Ph.D. – WCVM

In this presentation, Miranda talked about ways to make environmental enrichments more attractive to pigs. She also showed results of a research trial done at a commercial farm and the PSC research farm comparing chains, toys, and renewable enrichments such as rope, cardboard, and wood.
