Can Omega-3 Fatty Acids Modulate the Immune Response of Pigs?

WShannon
Nutrition
November 3, 2020

The most stressful time in a piglet’s life is weaning. The numerous amounts of stressors present contribute to the post-weaning growth lag which can lead to anorexia and immune reactions. Nutritional strategies may help improve performance when weaning, using techniques such as novel ingredients, highly palatable protein sources, creep feed and omega-3 rich diets. N3 fatty acids help prevent inflammation, but need to be in an ideal n6 to n3 ratio of fatty acids. This ratio should not be below 5:1 of n6:n3.
